Photoshop transforms path instead of type layer

I have multiple layers: background, gradient fill, type, adjustment etc...

I created a path then I decided to scale my type layer:

• Clicked my type layer
• ctrl + t.
• it transforms the path 

The solution is to go to paths window and deselect the path and then select the type layer. 

I believe it would have been more efficient to release the path automatically when another layer is selected.
