Please Allow Users to Set a Fixed Default Font Size in Preferences

I would like to request an option in Preferences that allows users to specify a fixed default font size for new text layers.

At present, even after resetting Preferences, the default font size may be automatically set to a large value such as “50.” This appears to be influenced by document resolution and zoom level rather than by a user-defined setting.

While automatic sizing may be useful in some situations, it creates unnecessary repetitive adjustments for users who frequently create labels, annotations, figures, presentation graphics, or other text-heavy materials.

For professional workflows, consistency and predictability are often more important than automatic optimization. It would be very helpful to have an option such as:

  • Default Type Size: [ 16 pt ]
  • Enable automatic default type size based on document resolution and zoom

This would allow users to choose between Adobe’s automatic behavior and a fixed personal default, improving efficiency without removing the current functionality.

Text is one the few situations outside of hard copy print where DPI makes a difference. Two identical documents both 1000 pixels square, but the one on the left was set to 72dpi and the one on the right 300dpi.  The text is identical regards size relative to the document, but their stated size in Points is very different.

Incidentally, you can use this relationship to quickly adjust grid density.  The same two documents with Grid turned on. Both have the same settings as before other than dpi, but the 300dpi document has way less grid lines.  The relationship is linear so you can easily work out in your head what to change dpi to for a given grid density.  Note: You need Resample unchecked when doing this.
