Subscription services are gutting most of us. This year’s renewal will cost the entire profit of one of my two freelance jobs this year. Although new tools and features are nice, I can get by on older versions of the software for a while until I can afford the new version. Maybe once my work really takes off and this is a full time job, a subscription can be baked into the overhead.

There are plenty of free alternatives if you can’t afford the subscription. Somebody just introduced free versions of pretty much the entire Adobe Creative Cloud suite. I think it’s called ‘Artcraft’.

You never owned the software. What you purchased was a license to use the software.

Adobe is unlikely to return to perpetual licenses, but they will see your post.

Well - all I know is I had disc with the software and if the ended and I couldn’t afford to upgrade it didn’t mean I was done using the software. The subscription service is bleeding me dry because it cost more than what I made on one of my freelance jobs this year.

With the discs (or “perpetual license”) if I was OK not having the newest features then I could just keep floating with he older software.

The hard truth is that the subscription model has been a spectacular commercial success for Adobe. Their user base has exploded 2x - 3x since subscription was introduced.

So it’s very unlikely to happen.
