Select path points of a shape layer with the lasso tool

Currently, if a shape layer is selected, the lasso tool has no purpose.

It would be nice if it could select path points, just like in Illustrator.

Yes, You're right, the lasso tool works, as it always has.

With the direct selection tool it's pretty cumbersome to select single anchor points of complex shapes.

The idea to add this feature to the lasso tool is to avoid yet another tool.

Photoshop's Lasso tool was developed to select pixels decades before Shape layers were added. It works as it always has.

It sounds like you are looking for a new tool that would work with anchor points. In the meanwhile, use the Direct Selection tool.
