Please Adobe let us use our own   "filters"  we would do in Substance Designer.    Current use of sbs files is absolutly useless  IMO.

Like how it works in Sampler .  Too bad I  find Sampler so monstrously inconveniet it collects dust mostly on my pc.   Photoshop is so much better in evry aspect  but lacks   important functionalities.   Live filters like ones in Afinity photo is one of them.    Sbs based filters would be so  much better alternative and so much easier for people who don't know javascript.

Yet Photoshop's 15+1  bit is still perfectly  enough for height  channel.   I don't expect full  compatibility  like in Painter.   Nothing  complex like atlas scaterring . I use 3d soft to scatter things  anyway .   Maybe just something simple  like  heigh-to-normal ,  warp,  slope blur.    I have to use bevel&embos  FX in photoshop currently just to preview  the height channel when I do initial image edits after Reality Capture .  Using live Sobel math based  heigh-to-normal would be so much better showing .   Since it's alredy perfectly possible in Affinity Photo  I am one step from switching to it entirely.    Still prefer Photoshop although.

Filters created in Substance Designer, which are then exported as SBSAR for use in Painter, would have some serious limitations when applied to Photoshop not the least of which is they are limited in size. Photoshop can handle images up to 300,000 pixel x 300,000 pixels.  That is way beyond the 8192 x 8192 pixel size available in a Substance Designer graph which is considered a large tile in 3D texturing. Modern digital cameras with 100 MP sensors can output 11600 x 8700 pixel images.

Another issue is that, Photoshop works internally at 15 bit +1 /channel when set to '16' bit. Substance works at 16 bit float.

A node based filter system would be very welcome in Photoshop, but I doubt Substance Designer is the answer.
