Auto-Fit Existing Timeline Clip to Gap
When dragging a clip that’s already in the timeline into a blank space, I’d like Premiere Pro to automatically resize the clip’s duration to perfectly fit the available gap — either by trimming, extending, or time-stretching it, depending on user preference.
Example:
I have a 3-second gap between two clips. When I drag another clip (currently 5 seconds long) into that gap, Premiere automatically adjusts it to 3 seconds in duration, filling the space exactly.
Why it’s useful:
Makes rearranging clips in a sequence faster and more intuitive.
Reduces manual steps (measuring gap length, switching to Rate Stretch Tool, etc.).
Great for montage, music-synced, or fast-paced editing workflows.
Optional controls:
Preference to choose behavior: Trim, Extend Freeze Frame, or Time-Stretch.
Shortcut key or modifier (e.g., hold Shift while dragging to “fit to gap”).
