Automatization of audio/video synchronization

Hi team!

We’re currently localizing a significant amount of content into multiple languages and are exploring ways to automate parts of our workflow. While there are several useful shortcuts, adding a few additional options would be greatly beneficial.

Here’s an outline of our current workflow:

  • We start with a source file (mp4 and SRT) where the SRT is segmented by full sentences for use in audio recordings of localized content.
  • I create a new sequence from the mp4, import the SRT, and make edits/cuts based on the SRT segments to prepare the sequence for localized audio. (I use shortcuts "Go to next caption segment" and "Add edit") (attached image_01.jpg)
  • Because the localized audio is often different in length from the original, I then adjust each segment individually, moving and matching it to the corresponding localized audio segment. (attached image_02.jpg)

This brings me to my request: Is there a possibility of a shortcut to accomplish the following?

Synchronize Segments with Audio Edits: A shortcut to “track” the selected (or previous) video segment/edit to the nearest audio edit, thus aligning all original video segments with their respective localized audio segments. While this would leave empty gaps between segments, I could then use the Rate Stretch Tool to expand each segment to fill its entire empty space. (attached image_03.jpg)

Auto-Stretch to Fit Empty Space: If possible, a shortcut that would automatically “stretch” each video segment to fill the corresponding empty space (similar to the “Extend Selected Edit to Playhead” function but with stretching instead of extending).

This would save significant time by allowing for quick adjustments without manual stretching.

Thank you for considering these adjustments, which would make our process far more efficient!
