Better way to paste a clip on the track that you want
I have two small Premiere Pro workflow suggestions that I think could eliminate a surprising amount of unnecessary clicking.
1. Use the Right-Click Position as the Paste Destination
Currently, Premiere relies on track targeting to determine where copied material will paste, and editors may also use track locks to protect tracks they don't want affected.
I think there is a much more streamlined approach.
When a user copies a clip, they should simply be able to:
Right-click the destination track → Paste
Premiere could record the exact mouse position of that right-click and use it to determine the destination automatically.
-
The vertical mouse position determines the destination track.
-
The horizontal mouse position determines the approximate timeline position.
-
If the right-click occurs in a gap after another clip, Premiere could snap the pasted clip's left edge directly against the right edge of the clip immediately before it.
This would remove the need to manage multiple track targets or lock several tracks just to tell Premiere where one copied clip should go.
The user is already pointing directly at the destination, so the mouse position itself contains all the information Premiere needs.
The workflow becomes:
Copy clip → point where you want it → right-click → Paste
I think this would be substantially faster and more intuitive, especially in timelines containing many video and audio tracks.
2. Add Control Points Directly While Editing an Ellipse Mask
When an Ellipse Mask is first created, its existing control points are already visible and editable.
At that moment, it would be very intuitive if the user could click, Alt-click, or use another modifier directly on any part of the ellipse border to add another control point.
The new point could then immediately be dragged into position.
Premiere already allows additional control points to be added to an ellipse by switching to the Pen Mask Tool. My suggestion is simply to eliminate that extra tool-switching step.
If I'm already editing an ellipse and can see its control points, I should be able to:
Click border → create point → drag point
That would make refining circular and elliptical masks much faster and more intuitive.
