Can I create a Multicam clip that defaults to the video clip length when syncing with audio?

I am using Multicam to sync individual video clips with externally recorded audio (using timecode) to prepare for a film edit. When doing this, the resulting multicam clip defaults to whichever piece of media is longest at both the beginning and the end. This often results with black video at either end of the clip due to longer recorded audio during any given take. Can I make it so that the multicam will default to creating a clip using only the length of the video clip? I tried doing this manually by opening the multicam clip in a sequence and trimming the excess audio, but this process (along with being cumbersome) messes up the timecode, which needs to be maintained throughout post production. This seems like functionality that would be available and needed, but I have not been able to find any documentation or discussions on it. Thank you!
