Change Selection Tool to prevent Clip Boundary from being selected while selecting multiple Clips

Current Problem:

When (Shift) selecting multiple Clips or Clip Boundaries, the Selection Tool allows the other to be selected, which deselects all individually selected Clips or Clip Boundaries.

Needed Change:

While the Shift key is being held in order to select multiple Clips (or Clip Boundaries), prevent the Selection tool from being able to select Clip Boundaries (or Clips) until the Shift key is released. If the Shift key is held down again, in order to add more Clips (or Clip Boundaries) to the selection, only allow the current item being selected to be added to the current selection, until the Shift key is released again.

Why It’s Important:

If, while selecting Clip Boundaries, a Clip is accidentally selected, those Clip Boundary selections can be recalled with “Restore Trim Selection.” There is currently no “Restore Trim Selection” function for Clips, so if a user clicks a Clip Boundary or clicks off into an empty portion of the timeline, those Clip selections are lost. Sometimes, individually Shift-clicking and selecting Clips takes a lot of time. Playback of the Timeline, and other actions, can be made in-between selections. Losing a selection of Clips happens often to all users and wastes a lot of time, especially when working quickly.

Making selections is an essential part of the work that we do. Losing a selection is like deleting work that is completed and has to be redone. We need an improvement in the functionality of the Selection Tool to improve the speed at which editors can work. This job is very demanding and attention-heavy. Making a very simple and easily repeatable mistake decreases moral and enthusiasm for the work and the NLE platform of Premiere. This change is a highly desired, effortless programming alteration which will ensure the reduction of countless hours of wasted time while working in Premiere.
