Color wheels in Lumetri need granular numeric controls for hue angle, magnitude and so on. Resolve has It, Premiere used to have It in the old color factory plugins. Why can't we have It now? They're essential for professional and efficient color grading.

Lumetri is already being deprecated in the Public Beta … it’s only an effect you can apply from the Effects panel, not a panel by itself anymore.

As one of the first private beta testers of the Color Mode ...think ‘page’ really … it is not nearly fully fleshed out, it has some heavy duty capabilities coming, including the hardware people like Tangent working on controls for their panels … it’s really a much better, more powerful way to grade moving forward.

And Alexis laughs that my first response on seeing it was what the hay was this hot … mess … anyway … sigh. It’s a vastly different mental approach certainly than Resolve, Baselight, or the old SpeedGrade … but for most professional workflows, will be about as good if not better than anything out there.

Network b-cast/streaming and theatrical will still go to Baselight or Resolve primarily, but everything else … Color Mode will be able to handle within Premiere.

Some network/b-cast already goes through Premiere without touching a grading app, more so than most folks like to admit. I know some decently major editors who privately talk of setting up some shows to do this as they simply don’t have the time deadlines available to do the often extra day of conform out/in process.

That will not change with the Color Mode, some network/b-cast will still never get out of Premiere. Such as some of the ‘reality’ type productions. But as in general Color Mode/Page is a far superior working process to Lumetri … I think will actually be quite expanded. Full-on upper level b-cast/streaming shows will still go through a colorist in R or Baselight naturally.

And by the by, I wouldn’t call say Google spending $120,000 or better on a web-only video for their sites and socials to be “amateur trash” … as I’ve worked with some of the folks in those productions. There are web-only ‘shoots’ now that go north of $250,000 in case you hadn’t been aware of modern business practices.

As old style “ad” buys on TV simply aren’t that effective anymore.
