Creating captions with the same layout as the Transcript

Is there a way to create captions that are similar in length and layout as the transcript? I would like multiple lines of caption and the transcript layout seems just fine.

I still think it can be done, but it will be complicated.

Export transcript as text file.

Reformat it as srt.

This involves changing at least 5 major differences compared to the srt format. 1) There is no subtitle number (1, 2, 3, 4). 2) There is only a dash, not a double dash plus arrow to separate the start from the end timecode. 3) The timecode has frames, not milliseconds. 4) The line endings are word wrapped and (probably) need to have CR/LF line endings. 5) The Speaker line must be deleted. (Turning off speaker detection in the transcription settings does not help; the text file simply adds a line with “Unknown.”

Some of these are simple; others not so much.

Import to PR as captions. In my quick test, PR will import up to 6 or more line captions. It will be helpful to create a caption track style that sets the font size etc to make adjustments easier.

Still playing with this, but any one step may use up all my free time!

Shanalese,

Hello Stan,

Thank you so much for your reply.
I am willing to try either of those options; once they will yield longer captions. Currently, the captions being generated have a maximum of two lines.

Can you kindly point me in the direction of achieving longer captions with either of the workarounds you mentioned, please?

Short answer: "no." There is no option for creating captions from the transcript that will include more than a few lines.

Workarounds using export of the Transcript as .txt or.csv.

Workaround 1: create graphics text for import to PR.  For example, use an After Effects script to import a fomatted text file and export PR graphics text. I have only used ones that start with an srt file.

Workaround 2: Reformat as srt, and import to PR. If you want to give that a try, I'll provide more detail.

I have never tried that.
