Default names for duplicate sequences

So, I try to work in a non-destructive workflow. That means I duplicate sequences a lot when I have edits to make. It is THE MOST ANNOYING THING that even though I iterate my sequences (The name always ends in _v1 or whatever version I'm on) but when I duplicate it, it renames it _v1 Copy 01. After Effects recognizes I have a number at the end and just adds 1. Perfect! But no, Premiere makes me rename it. Then when I hit enter, it thinks I want to rename the next file in my project. SO DUMB. This really gets my goat if you couldn't tell. If they are going to make a stupid naming convention, at least let me have some input to what it gets renamed, right? AE has it figured out, why can't the Premiere team just copy and paste?

If anyone has a solution I'd love to hear it. Is anyone else bothered by this? Is there anyone on the Dev team that reads these? It seems to me like a rather simple fix, but I'm just a guy that has used this software for 15+ years that finally got fed up enough to post a thing somewhere. Really just a rant, but hopefully someone has a fix??!?!

I select the active sequence in the timeline named for example assy1, click on reveal in project in the hamburger menu, and then choose duplicate sequence.  I then rename the original sequence, updating the 1 to a 2 so I have the sequence I want to work on already loaded in the timeline.   Hope that makes sense, it's been a long day.

I also dislike the " Copy" suffix on duplication but in our workflow we also rarely deal with it. There are two 'workarounds' I know of that you can use.

You can do a copy into a paste command which will duplicate your sequence without any name change at all. Just requires 2 shortcuts instead of 1...

What we do for editing however is never have any old sequence version at all present in the offline/online edit folders. We always move them immedeatly to an __OLD folder. You can CTLR/CMD drag a sequence to some other place and it will also make a non-renamed copy of it. So whenever we start the day with new version we copy drag the current ones to __OLD and rename the now 'new' current ones to the new version. It works especially well because it allows you to keep your sequences opened rather than having to open your newly created onens which you sometimes accidentally forget and work in an old version instead.

I would move this to the Ideas section were I still a mod, but due to Wisdom from On High, I ain't.

So ... it's a good idea, there's a ton of naming convention things and options that should be other than they currently are.

So @Ann Bens how about moving this to Idea?
