Editing transcripts on clips that have been edited into a sequence

I did not understand at first. Upvoted.

When speaker identification issues are found after starting to work in a sequence, you must change to source media view to split/merge and rename the speakers. Logically, the speaker naming and transcript segments must be registered in the source media, full clip transcript. But this is true of regular edits (text/punctuation), and those are automatically updated. Changing speaker info from the sequence view has been requested previously.

One complication is whether a multiclip timeline, with multiple edits, will easily allow such editing.

The primary workaround is what you describe, but for some sequences/workflows it may not be too difficult. Double-click the clip segment in the timeline (opens clip in Source Monitor). Switch to Text panel; since you’re already in the Transcript tab, that’s where you’ll be. For me, in a very simple sequence, the transcript location is matched. And I did not see a difference between double-clicking the clip and using “F.” Make your edit. Click in timeline; you return to timeline/Program Monitor view, with the edit included.

Do you see something different in a real sequence?

Before I realized what your issue was, I drafted the following, which I will leave as background.

It is true that merge/split is not an option when editing source media transcripts in a sequence. You can use merge/split if it is a static/sequence transcript, but that is not what you are looking for. There is a shortcut for Split Segment, but it does nothing in sequence view.

It is also true that you have full text/punctuation editing in the timeline/program monitor view, and that those changes are also made in the source clip’s transcript.

I believe that the merge/split is useful when correcting speaker identification and changing the flow of the transcript prior to editing in a sequence. But merge/split appears to have no effect on caption creation etc.

Is there any other editing function that is not available in editing in sequence view?
