Feature request: default audio transcription language

The audio transcription feature is great, but for those of us outside the US, it would be great if we could select a default langauge to appear in the 'Create transcript' window - this always defaults to 'English' (specifically US English).

As someone in the UK, every now and then I forget to change this, start editing the generated captions, then realise that the spellings are US, which means either starting again, or going through and changing all the spellings to UK.

Anyone who mainly captures content in other languages will always have to select their language each time they use the create transcript feature. It is a small, simple feature, but to be able to select what the default transcription langauge would be hugely helpful.

    There is a default setting for language. It must be set after resetting preferences, but otherwise, it should stay set unless you change it.

     

    It is in the same area as auto-transcription, but you can see that it is a bit separate - i.e. it is an application-wide setting, not just for auto-transcription.

     

    You CANNOT just change the language in the transcription dialogue and have it change the default language.

     

    Here, I set it to French (I have an English install), and French is the default language in the dialogue when I now do transcriptions.

      From what I've seen, this tends to use tge OS language settings.

       

      For example, I've seen a couple users complaining that the word pounds was being transcribed as the Brit money pounds symbol, but they're in the US.

       

      But checking their PC language settings, they did realize it was set to "English (UK)". And changing that resulted in correct transcripts.

       

      But while a truly massive step forward the transcription and subtitles process isn't quite  ... finished  ... yet.

      I don't understand how they add these features without thinking of the usability. I agree, there should be a setting for "default transcript language". The only thing they have is for automatic transcript, which isn't always necessary and it doesn't affect the manual transcripts.
