Filtering in project panel

Hi, I know we got the fancy new search panel but as I see, it’s lacking basic filter functionality based on folder structure.

Often I get folder structures with selects, shootings dates, color labels and to put that into context, I need to see the location of those files, best by seeing the folder structure.
(Sure, if all was logged into metadata it would be nice but that is not always possible and to be honest, showing a few metadata panels more in the project panel hits the performance a lot and often leads to UI bugs like input fields getting stuck while scrolling and such things).

So what do I want to do?

The situation is following:

A structure like

-Day 1
--Scene 1
--Scene 2
-Day 2
--Scene 3

In each “Scene” folder, there are numerous files, color coded to be selected or to be excluded.

Now I want to filter for specific labels but unfortunately the search doesn’t allow for something like Label:Green or Label=Green.
A search like “Green” isn’t working either, despite this search/filter is also picking up on other metadata columns (e.g. I could search for 1920 to only show 1920x1080 clips… working more or less).

So, what’s really missing here as far as I can see is a basic filtering “language” allowing for stuff like:
Label=”Dark Green” AND Resolution=”1920x1080” OR Resolution=”3840:2160” AND Date<=”19.02.2020”

Again this is for filtering inside of the project panel with folder structure as a base which isn’t possible with the search panel, nor search folders as they flatten the results to only files.

Is there anything like this possible at the moment or is this something that would be entirely new to filtering inside of Premiere?
I know you can hide files and toggle them but that wouldn’t help with finding specific files fast (relative to their structure)

The Search panel does support metadata basic filters including label color, though as you point out it doesn’t display the bin hierarchy as shown in the Project panel.

I’m curious if for the searches you are trying, would it help if you could limit the scope of the Search panel to a bin or parent bin, like “Day 1”?

But the footage loggin would need to be perfect and everything would need to be in the metadata already to filter for days and such.

For example in search I can’t search for label and on top of that group or sort for day.

Folders, in that regards, can act as an additional grouping or sorting (more or less collections when we compare it with other full blown media management environments).

It’s more or less a filter view I’m having in mind (that would be even more powerful when you are able to save it).
I often realize how powerful such filters are, when using DAM (like) tools (e.g. Eagle).

Limiting the search to specific bins would be a first step but less powerful than having the possibility to search things that are independent from such folders (“collections”).
Better would be a grouping/sorting feature inside of the search panel.

This screenshots show the most obvious limitation of the search panel: no context.

I don’t know why those files where found because I don’t see any metadata fields, not which bin they are in, nothing and even if I used specific filters, I still wouldn’t know anything else about the file because no metadata columns can be shown.

The project panel on the other hand gives me that and more. Only targeted filtering is not possible. The thing that is missing there is targeted filters.

Working with files and media management is for me all about finding stuff quickly using specific information and filtering but also being able to have all related information about the search results in front of me for deciding, what to do with those results or which one of the results is the one, that i really need.

Having the filter menu inside of the project panel would be a huge help but already advanced search terms would help as the described ones as long as they are well documented (also things like “isaudio”, “isvideo”, “issequence”)
