Generating New Videos from Markers

Would be interested in what people know and can share on this topic.

Basically part of my job at the moment is creating Compilations from certain episodes of TV Shows. Is there any tools that would help speed up my process in doing so? 

Not sure if this is viable but I thought something great that could be done is if you were able to 'mark/highlight' certain areas of source material. If after that premier could generate either in episodic order or at random a sequence with said areas based on what you have asked for it? If for example I wanted a compilation of free kicks within football I now have to watch majority of the source file and insert into a sequnce, but If I mark certain areas, label it with free kick I am able to come back to it at any given time. Likewise in the same file I could mark goal kicks, do that for all files and generate a sequence with several goal kick sections. If you could choose how long you wanted it to be as well, it could fill sequence with enough content. 

Just food for thought, if anyone has anything that might help speed up this process that would be great, as its quite tedious and time consuming at the moment
