Highlighter for transcripts feature request

Ever since the transcription feature was introduced I use it heavily to edit projects, I have found that sharing transcripts with clients is helpful for them to highlight and select lines they want featured in timelines so it is obviously very useful. I think a feature addition that could enhance it would be to enable highlighting lines in the transcript similar to how adding markers to a timeline might work, flagging selections or areas needing corrections, etc... could offer use without requiring cuts in the timeline but could allow finding certain sections in the transcript quickly, even color coding speakers could be helpful. I would also love some frame.io integration for this where sharing the transcript and getting feedback might update with some type of indication in the premiere transcript.

I agree — this would be a great feature to have.

In the meantime, here's a workaround you might find helpful:

You can export your transcript as a .txt file, send it to your client for review, and then re-import the corrected version back into Premiere Pro.

To do this:

  1. In the Text panel, click the three-dot menu in the top right corner.
  2. Select Export > Export to Text File.
  3. After your client makes changes, go back to the same menu and choose Import > Import Corrected Transcript.

Thanks this is really helpful! I'd still like to have some kind of separate transcript highlight functionality, but as I was unaware of this already being an option it is definitely a step towards what I would like. I think as an example setting a color for the text in transcript based on speaker would visually distinguish them, but doesn't necessarily need to appear on the timeline as a marker. I am also not sure how easily I could get clients who aren't really premiere users to flag things without having to advise them to use premiere so from a collaboration standpoint it would definitely be useful to have some simple option to share the transcript and get client feedback.

@.jake. thanks for the suggestions. As of version 24.4 there is support for displaying markers in your transcript. Click on the Transcript view options (button in the bottom right of the transcript window) and turn on Markers. Now any sequence level markers are shown in-line in the transcript. Plus, you can highlight text, press "M" (or whatever key you have set for "Add Marker") and a ranged marker will be added. Press M again to choose the color and add a note. There are also dedicated keyboard shortcuts for adding each marker color so if you really get into it, you could assign keys to each of those.
