How can I render my videos with the VP9 codec?

While rendering my videos, I output as MP4 and when uploading them to youtube, the codec comes out as avc1. I see some youtubers, from the moment they upload the videos, the codec comes out as vp09, but when I do it and upload it, it comes out as avc1. How can I instantly extract my videos with the VP9 codec?

Vp9 is a delivery/streaming codec. Not a typical "editing" codec.

No NLE supports all codecs. For instance, Premiere can do ProRes RAW, but from staffer comments on the BM forums, looks like it will be a cold day "down below" before that ever comes to Resolve. But of course, Resolve does some Premiere doesn't.

Avid is the same way ... different codec support from either Premiere or Resolve. It's a pick your poison thing as I tend to put it. With any NLE, for some codecs, you'll need to transcode or proxy.

Everyone's mileage always varies ...

keep waiting.. Its been years and they same issue... they don't seem to care to give full codecs support... specially with one so much commonly used on youtube.. everytime I want to edit 4k videos extracted from it, its a hassle as premiere does not support it... to be honest sometimes I consider changing video editor.

Hello, guys, I fond a similar issue but to import videos on Premiere 2023. The codec VP09 is not supported. Will Adobe correct this problem? Do you know how to install this codec on premire?

if the Quality is above 1080p youtube will automatically convert it to Vp9,
but if its below 1080p then youtube will use avc1,
the solution is to render your video on 2k or 4k even if its originally only 1080p

The same in case you want to upload it directly to YouTube from the Export tab of Premiere Pro. Just log in with your YouTube account and add the necessary information of your video, then export it. It will be uploaded with very good quality parameters.

Go to the Export tab and choose HEVC (H.265) in the format. If you don't know much about video output parameters, my suggestion is that you don't touch anything because by default you will have good settings. Give it a file name and a location in a directory on your computer and voila, export it.

You could use a HEVC (H.265), it is also a very good option and it is at the level of VP9.

So can you write me the output settings?

Premiere does not support vp6.

Use e.g. Shutter encoder to convert.
