Include a preference for the forward select tool

I want to have an option to be able to press the A key and get the single-track forward select tool rather than the multi-track tool. At present I have to add the Shift key, although it is the single-track tool I invariably want first. I could then add the Shift key to get the multi-track tool if I needed it.

Agreed, Stan. I actually changed the shortcut for the Track Select Backward Tool to Ctrl+Alt+Shift+A in the hope that I would free up Shift+A to be a shortcut for the Single-track Forward Select Tool, but of course that didn't work.

m5heath,

Just to clarify, you said "in order to get at the single-track forward select tool you have to press Shift-A." The default shortcut Shft+A is the Track Select Backward Tool. Plain A is the Track Select Forward Tool. Once you click A and position the cursor over the timeline tracks, what you and I see is that the default tool state is Multi-track. To get the tool into Single-track state, you hold Shift down. Let Shift back up; it is back to the Multi-track state.

No, V is the selection tool. You can get to the multi-track forward select tool by pressing A (try it). But in order to get at the single-track forward select tool you have to press Shift-A. I was wanting to reverse that behaviour, making A the single-track forward select tool - however I think it can't be done at present.

Ups, now I understand what you want. But I not understand why you want it.  Single-track forward select it is defoult tool (V). Or I not understand you?

Thanks for that Stan. I hope Adobe will take it as a suggestion - it really should be an option.

The default behavior for the Track Selection Tool is now Multi-track. To get Single Track, as you say, you hold down shift. I believe this was changed at some point, because the current online User Guide and the last pdf version (2019) both say you hold shift down to get Multi-track.

I see no way to change that behavior.

All the keyboard assignments do is to change to the Track Select tool - Forward or Backwards.

I don't think you can change it in Keyboard Shortcuts. The 'Track Select Forward Tool' has the shortcut A but that gives you the multitrack tool. There is also a command for the 'Track Select backward Tool' (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+A) but I want A to be the shortcut for the Single Track Forward tool and nowhere can I find a command that will allow me to set a Shortcut for that. Instead I have to press Shift+A for the Single Track Forward tool. Please tell me I am wrong!
