Let Replace work for a selected gap too

I am working on a project where some footage still had to be shot, so I left some gaps to fill in later.  I would like to fill the gaps by selecting and use 'Replace' as if it where a clip.

I want to fill those with video.

I'll explain why and when this comes in handy:

When working on a timeline for a music video with a lot of shots that are not yet available, but other shots already have their exact place in time, it is nice to leave out blank parts to be easily replaced when the shots come available.

In my case I am working on a show opener with a lot of CGI shots that will become ready in a non chronological order. I want to keep up, so I place every shot as soon as I get it. For the last shots it is convenient to just replace the spaces with the Replace function so there won't be any blank frames left.

In Premiere Pro, free timeline space can already be selected as if it where a clip, so why not handle it like a clip.

You could fill the gaps with black video.
