Make the CEA-708 captions capable of being closed

I have searched for hours, watched several captioning videos for PP, and no where does anyone explain how to make the CEA-708 captions closed. The captions always and only publish as open no matter what I do.

Please make it possible for the CEA-708 captions to be closed.

Thank you.

Thanks again Stan!

As I mentioned, the MP4 file will be posted on the company's SharePoint site, and employees will stream it to their laptops in the various company offices.

So, I guess open captions will have to do.

Tim, yes the little "CC" on Youtube etc stands for Closed Caption, but it does not really mean that it uses a CEA 608/708 closed caption. And in any event, the captions are not embedded in the video file. Youtube uses a sidecar file, and the user turns the captions on or off with the CC button.

You need to know what player you are using and how it handles captions/subtitles. Most of today's players will use a sidecar file, which can be of various types.

Thanks for responding!

I am publishing an MP4 file from PP and then saving it to a company SharePoint site. The video will have to be watched from that location as employees stream it to their office laptops or PCs.

The majority of videos on YouTube have a CC option, and they are presumbly MP4 files as well. That is what I need.

Are you saying that captions cannot have the "closed" option if they are embedded in the MP4 file?

Tim,

How are you "publishing"? And how are you playing back?

"Closed captions" were designed to be embedded in a file for playback via broadcast TV. If they are exported as SRT and played via the sidecar file, they are no different than any other caption file regarding whether they show or not.
