Manually Adjust Transcript Timestamp

When creating a transcript in Premiere, you cannot change the timestamps for detected audio. Sometimes it will pick up background noise and either lengthen the transcription frame to accommodate that, or it won’t detect transcribable audio and cut words from the speaker. While captions made from the transcript can be lengthened or shortened across the timeline, the ability to do this with transcripts would make the workflow smoother and more efficient. At present, the only solution is transcribing with in/out points; however, this relies on the same auto-detecting audio software that occasionally clips shorter than the in/out points or, conversely, transcribes past the designated out point.

Yes, such issues can be a problem. What version of PR? There have a number of improvements over several recent versions.

Currently using 26.5.2 which I believe is the most up-to-date version. Though I appreciate the ease of editing captions and changing their timeline values through the caption panel, the lack of tools to change timeline values directly on the transcript is cumbersome to deal with.

A note: while selecting in/out values is generally a way to bypass this issue, often Premiere will encode a transcript value from the in point past the selected out point and interfere with re-transcribing newly selected sequences. I hope that adding an option to manually input transcription timecodes would not only bypass this “bug” but also make general workflow more efficient
