Nested captions: Some way of allowing them to percolate to top sequence as data not just video.

I'm working with a number of multi-cam sequences which have their own captions.

I can't re-transcribe them... I need to work with existing captions.

I'm editing these sequences down in a master editing sequence, and I can see the captions (when I turn-off video track multi-cam, which is fine). But I can't export them as SRT. I can only do that from each multi-cam sequence where the captions reside.

Could Adobe please find a way to allow this captioning data to percolate up to the master editing sequence? This could be a one-time process... not necessarily dynmamic.

I can appreciate that it could cause grief if main editing sequence captions were then editable if they were also dynamic (reflecting changes in nested sequences as those changes are made, the way audio and video do... and the way visual captions do) so perhaps a way of approaching this would be to create a "virtual captions track" where all nested sequences captions percoalte up in a read-only (but dynamic) fashion.

When I'm looking at TEXT window, my choices are:

- Create captions from transcript.

- Create new caption track.

- Import captions from file.

...how about an option...

- Import captions from nested sequences.

...so that could be a non-dynamic approach? Once they're imported they're just a copy of the nested-sequence captions. And if I make a change to nexted sequence captions I can just re-import from nested sequences again.

Hey Stan, thanks for the reply. I hadn't thought about nesting each individual clip with its own captions before creating a 'master nest' of those to use as a multicam sequence. That would certainly solve my issue; don't see why it wouldn't work.

Yes, I'm using these captions in the final export - but I needed them visible in each of my clips/camera inputs because I am not fluent enough in Spanish to understand what the different speakers are saying fast enough.

I wish I would have seen your response sooner, as now I am a bit too far along in the project to go back and work with that nested multicam sequence again. I have another set of sequences pulling from those, and I ended up just re-transcribing each new sequence I created after that to work with. Not the best move, but it's at least helping me limp along. I'll finalize the captions once the final edit is done.

I have still not experimented enough with text-based editing/captions in multicam.

Are you going to use these as captions in the final? If so, the easiest option is to create them in the multicam sequence rather than the unnested.

If you want each of the multicam clips to show its own captions as you are selecting, I think you need to nest each clip in the un-nested sequence, open that nest, and create the captions there. You will see the captions in the nest and in the Multi-cam monitor for each clip and the selected clip.

Note that for overlapping audio tracks in non-multicam, only the highest track shows as the transcription. But in the multicam it is showing the active camera when done as I describe.

I did a quick test, and would like your confirmation that this works or not.

I'm having a similar issue and wish there was a workaround. Premiere is treating my captions track in my unnested sequence as an individual camera/video feed. So, when I'm working in my nested/master sequence, I can't see the captions which overaly the whole unnested sequence unless I disable multi-camera view on the nested sequence. See my screenshot:
