[Now released] Restore MKV Format Support

Removing MKV Format support has a negative impact on the workflow of people that work with broadcasting software like OBS. Restore MKV support. Having native support for MKVs, even if they don't edit well without generating proxies, saves me a ton of time that I'd otherwise have to spend remuxing/transcoding files.

The lack of support of MKV is a real let down considering I've paid thousands of dollars to use this software.

I'd like to see support for MKV files. You don't realize the time spent that costs companies because it isn't available. Think..

I still use MKV on the daily. It's a free and open source container too. Why can it not be supported? It's not even a codec, just a container.

Ryan Creighton, ah, Classic Adobe, where you need free software to fix the paid software.

Insane. My subscription lapsed for a period between jobs. Now that I'm back, they've removed MKV support and years of source material is now useless. What the eff?

i'm not going to sift through 12 pages of comments to see if someone else said this, but i have this same problem. And until the team supports mkv format again (which they should!) here's a very fast workaround using the free VLC software:

1. Media>Convert/Save
2. + Add (add the mkv file)
3. Convert/Save
4. Click the wrench
5. On the Video codec tab, select "Video" and "Keep original video track"
6. On the Audio codec tab, select "Audio" and "Keep original audio track"
7. Save
8. Browse
9. Choose a destination and give it a .mp4 filename
10. Start

Quick and painless. Converts it to an mp4. But we shouldn't have to go through this. If free software can do it, this expensive software handle mkv files with no conversion.

MKV may not be a wildly popular format, but it makes Media Encoder unable to do it's job if MKV is not supported. I am look to transcode this format and I am unable to do this with this software.

Please consider making Media Encoder more useful by supporting more formats like MKV.

I was using OBS to record, and chose MKV because it doesn't require finalization of the file after recording. Why would you REMOVE support for something like this in professional software?

You could stay with the old version supporting MKV and downgrade your project manually https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJO4PlHASIs
