P: Modifying font and font size in the interface

I would like to be able to change the font and font size across the board in the interface. it is WAY to small for my old eyes

As a professional Premiere Pro editor, I need to tell you how much I need to have the ability to adjust the font size across the UI in version 25. Taking it out and leaving the very small font size has slowed down my editing speed. I hope you will bring it back soon.

Hi everyone, thanks for the passionate feedback. Francis from Adobe here. I’m a Principal Product Manager on Premiere Pro.

The real talk is that yes, we did underestimate how many of you were utilizing the Console to adjust font size!

UI font size adjustment has been a request that’s been made for years and got shifted or re-prioritized from time to time. As your monitors have gotten larger, your requests have understandably got louder.

You’ve probably seen that Adobe moved to a new unified design language this year. That included a tremendous amount of infrastructural change that has been in the works for a long time. (There are 29 panels and hundreds of dialogs in Premiere Pro that must be reviewed and considered when making visual adjustments!)

All that to say: we’re finally at a place where we can push this closer to the top of the to do list. We now have two active engineering efforts: one for investigating adding font size adjustment throughout Premiere Pro, and one for adding support for operating system UI scaling.

As an Adobe employee, I must also mention a reminder that the Console is only meant to be an internal development tool; you are not even supposed to know it exists! Removing this debug flag wasn’t an intentional removal of functionality, it was a result of broader clean-up of old code. That’s part of the reason we never encourage anyone outside our engineering teams to utilize the console – you never know what you’re going to get, and you can really break stuff messing about in there.

That said, I’m sorry you all had to rely upon this back door to make Premiere Pro look the way you need it to look! We’re working to make this right.

Indeed. [with a "wiser" monitor choice.] I can use a 32" UHD monitor with no scaling.

The question really is about pixel size or pixel pitch. For my ageing eyes I need at least

Pixel Pitch (HxV)

0.27675mm x 0.27675mm

So, I would gladly buy and 8k monitor if it has the above pixel pitch or better. That's the key.

But for 8k pixels crammed into the screen, it would probably need a 120" display. Some odd thing like that.

So I'm locked into a 32" UHD display, and it if was 27", I could certainly only use an HD display.

I only ever consider running Windows with 100% scaling. I have a software I wrote and sold, and some people started running into a problem with xxx showing in date fields (it was Windows 3 at the time) I couldn't duplicate the problem, then I discovered it was because the user had Windows scaling on. So, had to go back and make all the fields bigger, just in case.

Windows scaling is a bandaid for a wrong monitor purchase. I do scale Chrome, but that's about it. Enough people need PP to scale, someday it will happen.

I suspect overhauling the font system would be a heavy lift for Adobe, requiring a rebuild of the UI from the ground up. I'm pretty sure that's why we haven't seen any improvement despite the plethora of other upgrades. Adobe Illustrator has decent font sizing options by comparison, while Photoshop barely has any.

A reason to help is: the software is unusable, and have become counterproductive to depend on.

Very unlikely that they will share anything until this feature is at least
integrated into the beta version. Just the way corporations like Adobe avid
and Apple operate.

Well, they haven't...surprise surprise. How about you make it crystal clear to your team to PRIORITIZE THIS ASAP. It's really galling, honestly, to announce this feature that literally strips the only font size hack we had. Adobe should be ashamed for not meeting the most basic of accessibility options for those with visual impairment.

Hi all. I have researched everywhere and it seems like the option to increase UI font size using engineering tools is gone. I know that there is the Project Panel option but it only affects that panel. I teach both face to face and online and have many students with disabilities and accessibility problems visually speaking, so I can't understand why Adobe doesn't make that an easy and accessible function under appearance. Anything I am missing?

Is there any new developments regarding this issue? Now that our current projects are nearing completion we are considering leaving the Adobe ecosystem even though it will cost us in additional time & energy in getting up to speed with new software, but we believe the long term benefits will be worth it.

We considered adding a section to our newsletters about this issue and if possible asking our partners & customers to transition to more user-friendly software to have a more sustainable working environment in the industry, but we are going to postpone this in the hopes that there will be an update from the developers.
