We that bought Canon EOS R6 mk3 (many of us) loves shooting in RAW and 7k and Open Gate, etc… But coming to Premiere and not being able to drop it and edit it… Makes me, my team, my freinds and a lot of people question the money we spendon this app while there’re assistants encouraging us to use competitor’s software like DV do transfer it to ProRes and then export it to Premiere… If I need to do that then might as well spend the same amount of money on the other software than this…

No hate but please team, work faster… R6 mk3 came out Nov 2025… We are 3months into 2026...

The K size and open gate don’t have anything to do with an NLE being able to read them ... it’s the format/codec that matters. And I cannot tell from your post what the actual problem is ...

So is Premiere not able to read/import the media? If so, which settings on the camera? And what’s the media recorded in, is it long-GOP or ... what?

What is your system is also typically a huge part of this, as the ability to handle upper k-counts is often very much a local thing.

Thanks for the follow-up. To clarify, the issue is that Premiere Pro currently does not recognize the CRM (Canon RAW Light) files specifically from the EOS R6 Mark III when shot in 7K Open Gate.

Here are the technical specs of the footage:

    • Format: CRM (Canon RAW Light)

    • Resolution: 7K Open Gate (6963 x 4640)

    • Bitrate: ~2600 Mbps

    • Frame Rate: 25 fps

    • System: Windows 11

While the hardware handles other 8K workflows fine, these specific R6mk3 RAW files show an error while trying to “Play” them even in 1/16 quality it just turns black and don’t play anything of the clip itself. Possibily because the metadata/decoding for this new model hasn't been added to the Adobe Camera RAW/Premiere engine yet. This is why we are currently forced to use DaVinci Resolve to transcode to ProRes before editing in Premiere.
