Please reinstate the Search option under the Help menu

I have just discovered that the Search option under the Help menu has been removed from the current version of Premiere Pro. (I'm using 23.2.0 Build 69 on a Windows 10 PC) What are you thinking?? For new users like me this is an invaluable option which helps significantly in trying to learn the software and interface. Searching online is tedious and time consuming when all I want is a simple answer or pointer to the item in the menu (as used to be available, I believe). I learnt of the Search option under Help in a course I'm doing which uses Premiere Pro CC 2017 (See attached file for a screen grab from course). This seems like a retrograde step. Could you reinstate it please?  If not, why not?  Thanks Gayle

Hi Nariman - thanks for this. Ok - so not available on Windows. Very BAD of Adobe to be discriminating against Windows users in this way 🙂

I still don't understand why it hasn't been added, it should be on every Adobe app.

Hi GayleK,
I don't think Windows version of PPro ever has such search bar.
I checked all the way back to PPro version 14 and that version didn't have a search bar.
I think this was unique to Mac version of PPro.
This would be a feature request for PPro on Windows.

Hi Suraj - I'm unable to reply to you by email because the way Adobe is set up seems incompatible with my email system. I posted a reply to your email and post here on June 2nd but I've no0t received a response yet. Could you please read through my post and respond.

Thanks

Gayle

Hi Suraj - thanks for your reply. I'm not at all keen to be uninstalling and reinstalling premiere pro. It seems highly unlikely that doing what you suggest would fix things because my computer is relatively new and windows was installed correctly with English-US as as the default language as was Creative Cloud.

It seems that you are using Apple (below your search bar is an option to send feedback to Apple). I am on a Windows platform. Maybe that's the difference. The screen grab I sent showing the search option was from an old version on an Apple MAC.

Also - the search bar is missing for ALL the adobe suite programs I currently use: Photoshop, Lightroom, Bridge & Media Encoder. Uninstalling and re-installing these is also highty undesirable.

Can you please check if there is some special shortcut for the search bar like there is in Photoshop? I've attached a screen grab from photoshop where Ctrl-F (Windows) brings up a Discover pop-up with a search bar in it. Typing in something gives you some options. If you select one, you're taken to it. This is the FUNCTIONALITY I'm looking for in Premiere Pro which it seems is there on Apple installations.

Thanks again

Gayle

Can you please check other windows installations to see if I'm the odd one out?

Hello, Gayle

I'm sorry, but I have no idea why this occurs on your end. I've checked the most recent releases, and if the OS language is set to English, the problem isn't present. See the attached Screenshot.

Attempt this; it could work:

1. Premiere Pro was uninstalled, and Creative Cloud was signed out.

2. Removed the OS Language or restarted the computer and added the English(en_US) language back.

3. Log in, install the application, and give it a shot.

Let me know if it functions.

Thanks,

Suraj.

Hi Suraj,

Thanks for your reply.

I've checked my Windows 10 system language and it is Engligh (United States) as is my Creative Cloud language so this is not the cause of the problem. I've taken a screen grab of what I get when I mouse-over the help menu in Premiere Pro 2023 and attached it here for you to see. As you can see, there is no Search option 😞

Thanks

Gayle

Hello, Gayle

Is your system language set to another language? This sounds bad. Because the search option was not enabled in the help menu if the system languages were set to other languages.

I'll take note of it and be in touch to learn more.

You can try again after switching your system language to English (US). this will works and search option will be available for you.

Let us know if it works.

thanks,

Suraj.
