Premiere needs to switch to using Open AI's free on-device Whisper plugin.No cloud connection needed

Since the built-in speech-to-text transcription plugin in Premiere Pro is only ~65% accurate (if you count the punctuation mistakes) — which in mid-2025 (the age of reasoning super AIs is quite unprofessional for such a large company), why don't you switch to using Open AI's free Whisper API app? All the processing is done on the user's computer too.

You Could (but don't have to) also add an option to occasionally use the Cloud (like you do with the option in Photoshop to use local or Cloud-based Generative AI whenever it's needed) for more demanding audio transcription jobs.

Upvoted. I have the same problem, so I transcribe my videos with Whisper locally and import the result into Premiere. It would be much easier to just pick it inside Premiere.

I'd suggest adding it as an additional option next to the current engine, not as a replacement. That way nobody loses anything, and people who are happy with the existing one can keep using it. The model could be an optional download on demand, similar to the language packs, with a choice of sizes for weaker hardware.

It's free and open source, and it runs locally, which matters for client footage. Please consider this, Adobe.
