Premiere Pro needs to evolve for modern social media editing

I've been using Premiere Pro for many years, and I genuinely love the software. It's still my primary editor because it's fast, reliable, and integrates perfectly with the Adobe ecosystem.

However, I honestly feel that Premiere Pro is slowly falling behind when it comes to modern social media editing.

The editing industry has changed dramatically over the last few years. Today, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, TikTok and Facebook videos are a huge part of professional video production. Unfortunately, Premiere still lacks many features that have become standard for this type of work.

Some examples:

  • Responsive text backgrounds with rounded corners.
  • Individual background boxes for each text line instead of one large rectangle.
  • Modern text animation presets for social media.
  • Word-by-word caption animations.
  • Better kinetic typography.
  • More caption styles.
  • AI-powered subtitle correction (too many words are still transcribed incorrectly).
  • Better responsive text boxes.
  • Easier creation of reusable title templates.
  • Animated text highlights.
  • Auto-sizing shapes that work correctly with multi-line text.

One simple example:

If I write a title over two lines, Premiere only creates one large background based on the longest line. It isn't possible to create separate rounded background boxes for each line without complicated workarounds or building a custom MOGRT in After Effects.

This feels like such a basic feature in 2026.

I appreciate that Adobe has recently added new transitions inspired by Film Impact, but I think Premiere still lacks many built-in effects that have become standard in modern editing.

For example:

  • Film Burn
  • Modern social media overlays
  • Torn Paper

Many editors, myself included, still need third-party plugins just to achieve effects that are common across today's social media platforms.

The biggest issue for me, however, is text animation.

Creating engaging captions shouldn't require switching to After Effects, building a custom MOGRT, or purchasing third-party templates. These should be native tools inside Premiere Pro.

What makes this even more frustrating is that software like CapCut already offers many of these features out of the box. I completely understand that CapCut targets a different audience, but professional editors shouldn't have to rely on consumer-focused software just to create modern captions efficiently.

Premiere Pro is still one of the best editing applications available, but I believe it's time for Adobe to invest much more heavily in features specifically designed for today's content creators.

I'd love to see Adobe focus on making Premiere the best tool not only for traditional film editing but also for modern social media production.

My biggest feature requests would be:

  • Responsive multi-line text backgrounds (one rounded box per line)
  • Modern built-in social media text animations
  • Word-by-word caption animation presets
  • Better kinetic typography tools
  • Auto-resizing text containers
  • More built-in effects commonly used in social media editing.
  • More modern title templates and caption presets
  • Better Motion Graphics tools directly inside Premiere Pro without requiring After Effects for common tasks
  • More keyframe presets and animation presets (bounce, pop, overshoot, elastic, smooth reveal, etc.).

Professional editors shouldn't have to choose between the power of Premiere Pro and the convenience of social media editors. Premiere Pro should offer both.

I truly hope Adobe continues investing in this direction. Premiere Pro is an amazing editor, but I believe it could become the undisputed industry leader again by embracing the needs of today's social media creators.

Greetings,
Sven
