Premiere won't import folder structure if there's only one item in the foldefr

When I import files, Premiere will maintain the folder structure - unless there's only one item in the folder, in which case it will not maintain the folder structure, forcing me to rebuild it myself. I believe it's been this way for years now. Can you make it where Premiere will maintain the folder structure, even if there's only one item in the folder?
