Productions - add ability to 'Open' Project as Read Only

Within Premiere Productions, it would be great to have the ability to be able to open a project as ‘read only’ rather than opening it and then click to convert it from ‘editable’ to ‘read-only’.

The reason behind this is that there plenty of projects that get created (Rushes, selects timelines etc…) that once created, not only rarely need changes to, but actively want changes to be prevented.

This is currently possible by opening the project (which defaults to ‘editable’) and then clicking the Read/Write toggle.  But this step is a real faff and easy to forget.

So if nothing else, the option to right click and ‘Open as Read Only’ would work.  Beyond that, a keyboard shortcut to open project as Read Only, or even to toggle or set it between Read or Write when the project panel active.

Beyond that, it could be cool to set default behaviour for certain projects.  So projects that you know you’ll always want to open as ‘read only’ will default to that.  I guess it could be as simple as just remembering the state it was in when it was last open (although I guess writing that info might not be as simple  given it would be ‘Read only’ mode).

I just think this would be a really helpful feature to add to the Production workflow and would help to protect projects from having unintended changes saved.

How about taking it a step further? Is there a way to open read-only by default and have to use CMD+click to open editable? I am working with a group, and most of us are never going to write to the B-roll project, yet the AE constantly has to ask for the project back. The problem comes when matching back to something. Premiere will open that project, and it would be nice if it were read-only.

Hi @jamie_mac - To open a project in Read-Only mode within a Production, hold CMD (on Mac) or CTRL (on Windows) while clicking the project.
