Reflow / regenerate existing captions using “Create Captions” layout rules (16:9 → 9:16)

In Premiere Pro, caption layout rules (max characters per line, single vs double lines, minimum duration, gap, etc.) are only applied at the moment captions are created from the transcript. Once captions exist, there is no way to re-apply these rules.

This creates a major workflow problem when delivering multiple aspect ratios (e.g. 16:9 and 9:16):

  • Captions are often created for a 16:9 master edit.

  • When repurposing the same edit for 9:16, the existing captions are too wide.

  • There is no automation to rewrap or regenerate those captions with new layout constraints.

  • The only option is to manually edit each caption or delete and fully recreate them, losing caption-level timing and edits.

Is there any current workaround planned, or is this functionality on Adobe’s roadmap?

all the best
