Relinking to similar files names

Since version 23, an update broke our workflow a little bit.

 

We localize a lot of videos and used the offline/relink to swap out our locales.

We would have a naming convention like this:

 

"VIDEONAME_en_US_SCENE_01" and relink with "VIDEONAME_de_DE_SCENE_01" and it would automatically relink the other similarly named files.

 

This worked in previous versions(since at least 2020-2022), but the last year or two it stopped working like this and we need to relink each file one by one.

 

Is there a way we can re-enable this or get a checkbox to relink similarly named files?

    Interesting. I think this might be a bug as two others in the bugs forum are showing similar problems with linking media. Let me see if there's any overlap between your cases, @defaultwf3jdlvkm4y7. I hope we can help you soon.

    These are typically exports from After Effects. The process is we offline the clips, then select them all and right click "Link Media", then after relinking the first clip it would auto find the others with similar names, usually indexing up by 1 (so SCENE_01, SCENE02, etc) We did just figure out that it will work like it used to if we UNCHECK "File Name" while relinking.

    Hi @defaultwf3jdlvkm4y7,

    Thanks for the feature request. I think it may be a workflow bug you might be hitting.

     

    Are you using card-based media? If so, ingest the entire folder structure from the Media Browser when setting up your project's media. Avoid a File > Import or drag-dropping cherry-picked files in those folders, you need metadata from all the folders. See if that helps your quest for smoother relinking. I know how annoying it can be to relink one clip at a time. "Please, please, no!"
