Remove crop from motion effects

I really don't like how the crop effect was merged with "motion" in effect controls in V25. It's more an efficiency and quality of life thing, but there's so much more scrolling I'm having to do to get down to the effects I actually add to clips.

You can see in the screenshot I'm having to scroll down to make adjustments to my transform effect each time I need to change something. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal, but it's definitely noticeable to me.

I don't feel that crop is used enough to justify moving it here.

Thanks!

@Kevin-Monahan

Does anyone still use the Anti-flicker filter?

Interlaced screens are passé.

Crop takes up too much real estate in the effect controls list. it was fine as an add on where can minimize the whole effect into one line... this is so backwards

Honestly, I don't think we should remove the effect entirely, just make the UI neater.

I just found out that the new Crop effect from the Properties panel doesn't trigger the yellow render bar on the timeline.

I've been using it to do letterboxes, and cropping for 9:16 deliverables from 16:9 timelines by applying them to an adjustment layer stretched across the entire sequence. I noticed that there isn't the yellow/red render bar above in my timeline panel as opposed to my previous workflow – which was to use a letterbox/pillarbox .png still, which causes the yellow render bar to appear. Using the traditional Crop effect from the Effects bin on adjustment layer triggers this too.

Is it really less taxing on the computer? I love that I can make position changes without re-rendering the previews and playback smoothly. Takes some pain off reframing for socials and arbitrary format deliverables while using the Blackmagic I/O devices for the client mon.

@Kevin-Monahanthanks for merging

Hi,

Thanks for the ideas. How about this: Create a twirly, and a default that it be twirled up. I'd be good with that.

FWIW, the old FCP had both Crop and Drop Shadow as intrinsic effects, twirled up and disabled by default. That was pretty cool and didn't take up space.

Cheers,

Kevin

I have no need for the crop effect as part of Motion either.

You cannot drop a shadow on the effect nor does it has feather.

I think the Properties panel is more than sufficient.

If it is here to stay please make it twirl up. Takes in too much room.

To reduce visual clutter, we suggest to group the individual Crop effects under the Effects Control panel so we can collapse it like Motion/Opacity. Also to include Feather parameter for the Crop group. Thanks
