Search Across All Projects in a Production

This is by no means a new request. I have been clamoring for this since Productions launched. But, it's such a basic and critical part of working in Premiere that to not have this feature feels like a collossal oversight.

WE DESPERATELY NEED TO BE ABLE TO SEARCH FOR CLIPS/METADATA/MARKERS ACROSS ALL PROJECTS IN A PRODUCTION.

It's not enough to just be super organized, but for now that's our only option.

BEGGING FOR THIS! PLEASE!

Thank you everyone for this Feature Request.

Currently you can only search in Open Projects. You can Open a Project on a Lock so that other Editors have access to editing it by pressing Cmd on Apple and Cntrl on PC when double clicking the Project in the Productions Panel. You can then close the opened Project Panel to reduce clutter as it will remain Open in the background. This is a Workaround until we can further develop this feature.

Thank you,

Amy

Screaming into the void six years later...this not being able to search across productions is unsustainable for the kind of work I do.  Productions was such a big improvement, but this metadata problem has got to get solved.

@David28356117b2yl as Stan mentioned, if you are in Premiere Pro 25.2 or later there is now a Search panel, which can search for Visuals, Transcripts, or Metadata in your project. While it can't search across closed projects in a Production, it can search across all open projects. This means you can open your media projects and use the Search panel, and you will see results from all projects put together. It's a small improvement for this scenario.

This is actually how I use it as well—after finishing an edit, I copy just the music I used into a sequence within the dedicated Music project. That way, when I'm searching for tracks I haven’t used yet, I can sort the bin by the Usage column to quickly identify unused music.

I like the sound of this workaround @PaulMurphy - my concern is that it would make that project go very slow. But I presume you've been using this - can you give any feedback on how this is working for you?

I will also add that for me, it's not so much that I want to be able to search, it's that I want to be able to use Video Usage, because that's how I find a sequence from a clip, for example when I remember I got a certain edit to work or I need the selects sequence it came from. Highly useful in a complex doc project.

Hey guys, I am now using productions because I thought I was going to be able to search for clips globally within the production, but I guess it does not work like that yet. Am I missing something?

@Nick Ha and All,

Announced in the Beta 12/16/24, "With the new Search panel, use natural language to find these visuals, plus spoken words in transcripts or clips with embedded metadata like shoot date, location, or camera type – all at the same time."

A staff comment on productions is here:

In context, I think markers/labels are also planned. But so far (I'm on Build 104), it includes visuals, text, and metadata.
