Subsequence Auto-Switch Behavior in Premiere Pro 2025

Dear Adobe Premiere Pro Team,

I’d like to provide feedback on a change in Premiere Pro 2025 regarding the “Make Subsequence” function.

Currently, when I select a portion of a sequence, right-click, and choose Make Subsequence, the program automatically:

  1. Places the new subsequence in the Timeline, and

  2. Switches the focus away from my original sequence.

This behavior introduces unnecessary interruptions to my workflow. Instead of continuing seamlessly in my main timeline, I now have to close the subsequence and re-open my original sequence, adding extra steps every time I use this feature.

Why this is a problem

  • Disrupts established workflows: Editors often use subsequences for organization, but not for immediate timeline switching.

  • Increases friction: Each forced switch requires manual correction, which adds up significantly over the course of a project.

  • Removes flexibility: Editing is highly personal. One-size-fits-all behaviors don’t work well in professional environments where speed and precision are essential.

Suggested improvement

Please make this behavior optional. A toggle in Preferences (e.g., “Open new subsequence in Timeline on creation”) would allow each editor to choose whether subsequences auto-open or stay in the Project panel.

This change would:

  • Respect different editing styles.

  • Eliminate unnecessary steps for users who prefer to stay in their current sequence.

  • Make Premiere more efficient and user-friendly for a broader range of professionals.

Final thought

Every time a workflow changes in Premiere Pro, the software becomes so complex that I end up needing to consult outside help just to keep working. I’m increasingly fed up with being forced to adapt to changes that provide no real benefit. I yearn for a future where software is designed by AI with the user’s needs at the center — and where disruptive, forced changes like this simply don’t happen.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Would you like me to also make you a condensed “quick feedback” version (just a few sentences) in case you’d rather drop it into the in-app feedback box without the full letter?
