Temporary Drag-to-Zoom for Timeline (Auto Return to Previous Tool)

Hi Adobe Team,

It would be incredibly helpful to have a temporary drag-to-zoom action in the timeline, especially for those of us working primarily with a pen and tablet. Ideally, this would be something you trigger with a shortcut, drag across a section of the timeline with the pen, it zooms into that region, and then you’re immediately returned to whatever editing tool you were using before. Not a dedicated zoom mode, more of a quick, repeatable one-time action.

A marquee-style approach — zooming into a drawn region — or behaviour similar to Premiere’s Zoom tool already points in the right direction and can effectively emulate this kind of interaction. The key difference is that these approaches leave you in the Zoom tool after the action is completed.

Zooming is usually just a momentary navigation action before making a selection, trimming, or performing an edit. Having to manually switch back to the Selection tool each time interrupts the flow.

Thanks!

100% support this idea. I’d add that adding momentary control for a zoom command would be really useful - similar to the current Alt+mousewheel, but with something that could be controlled via cursor movement. e.g. Hold shortcut key, then while holding click and drag with the mouse to zoom in/out around the initial cursor position.
