Text panel user interface needs to be considered for better user support

As a power user of the text panel, specifically for creating closed captions on commercial spots, there is a serious misstep in how this thing works. I've detailed everything my video below.

What I bring up:

- Double clicking on text that has been changed from the default size reverts the editable text to the smaller, default size, making your lose your place as you are working

- Working to edit the text pauses video playback

- There should be a toggle for quicker access to editable text instead of needing to double click

- The panel itself needs to be able to interact with your timeline a little more fluidly as we often want to adjust things on the fly

I'd also suggest that we can have the text window open and editable during playback (so as to transcribe & correct more efficiently); that all the text be open in one window - instead of separate windows for each grab of text; and finally that there be greater "vertical" interoperability editing of the text - so that we can edit text on a sequence, and this will apply back through the source layers of each clip (such as when working with clips with dual record audio that have been merged in a multicam clip).

Also, as someone who wears glasses, having the text size in the editable text window default to the regular font size once a text window has been opened (in my case with an enlarged font size) is annoying!

Yes so Search and Replace I use often because I do work for Citibank, and they request that on video it be referred to as just "Citi." Well, you can imagine the transcript tool thinks that word is "city." Since nobody really needs to say the word "city" in their common language in these videos, I can safely just assume Search and Replace all "city" with "Citi" and that works great.

For my Spidey example above Search and Replace might have been a tiny time saver, but I would still be doing the same amount of QC as the word "vehicle" in that case only needed to be capitalized in certain scenarios, but is said a couple of times. So sometimes there's just no way around real human 1:1 QC for some of this more legal language complex stuff.

I'll try to come back with a more thorough and thoughtful approach to what I would imagine could be done here to improve the overall user experience, but fixing that text size bug would be a big help to start.

@BrianLevin,

Very thoughtful comments that I think can be very helpful to the developers.

BTW, for your workflow, I would also consider using search and replace for repeated capitalization changes.

- Text size bug: had a feeling it was a bug, didn't remember it being this way prior to upgrading to 25.5. So that just needs to be fixed, very annoying.

- Playback and edit mode: Yes, so that's all a good point about the shortcut keys. I just spent a few minutes messing with adjusting my workflow to utilize those keys and it's just pretty rough. Hitting Enter to go to edit mode while playback happens means the text cursor is still staying stuck to playhead, so you can't be editing behind where playback is occurring, even though you kinda can, it just causes chaos. While hitting Enter is nice, if you hit it you risk a mis-hit afterwards creating an unwanted line break, just thinking about where your hands and fingers are on the keyboard. I guess my gripe here is that this just needs someone to do a little more of a deeper dive into how it is meant to work and maybe it needs a level of finesse it presently doesn't have. When I have time maybe next week I might put together a sort of wish-list recording that shows what I would want to be able to do in the panel. It's not markedly different from what you can do now, I just imagine it working far more smoothly.

@BrianLevin,

Upvoted for the general concepts.

- Double clicking on text that has been changed from the default size reverts the editable text to the smaller, default size, making your lose your place as you are working

This was a bug that has been fixed in the Beta, but the fix did not get into release 25.4 nor 25.5. Makes working difficult, since the largest text size is barely big enough, and then when you need it - tiny! In 25.5 it goes to the middle size, not the tiniest - maybe it was improved?

- Working to edit the text pauses video playback

Yes, you can enter edit mode with playback continuing, but can't actually edit text with the playhead still moving in the transcript panel. Do you want it always to stop when entering edit mode? See the next comment.

- There should be a toggle for quicker access to editable text instead of needing to double click.

Hitting the Enter key is the shortcut to enter edit mode in the transcript. You have to  have the focus in the transcript tab, and, as you've implied, you must hit space (to stop playback) before hitting enter. Hitting ESC saves change and exits. Shft+Esc REMOVES changes and exits Edit mode.
