Trim Mode: keep 2-clip view during playback

I might be unique ... but always when I go to Trim mode (Shift-T) to get the view of both sides of a cut, it's jarring when I try dynamic playback and you go back to only one clip showing at a time.

I would love to have a Trim mode option where you could do the 'dynamic' playback, but see both sides of the cut point. I think it would be more clear to me just where I want to cut.

I realize you can scrub with the mouse and sort of kind of do this, but it's not nearly the same as watching it.

For me, I don't need to see the outgoing clip; I'm focused on the edit point itself, and whether or not I need to add or subtract frames when looping around that outgoing edit. If I'm satisfied, I toggle to the incoming side and begin adding or subtracting frames as I loop. After I'm satisfied there, I move on to the next edit. I might also play back through the last few clips to see how it plays. That's the way I was taught in Avid school and how I used it in MC, FCP, and now Premiere Pro. Avid was probably the best at this as it had en entire mode based on trimming in this fashion.

Cheers,
Kevin

Which is why I'm asking, ain't it?   😉

Well the original post said "see both sides of the cut" which you can definitely do. If you're looping the playback then you aren't trimming. It will loop when you watch the trim. Anyhoo, to each their own ... it doesn't do what you're asking and neither does any other NLE.

For the Nth time, yes, I listed that action myself!

But it does not loop.

What I want is to be able to loop the playback while doing that. Specifically stated.

But you can see just that when in a trim by JKL playing and scrubbing around. You see both sides of the trim moving in context with each other. Find the desired edit point, hit the space bar and watch the trim made in context.

I want to watch the action in the outgoing clip, as the action also changes in the upcoming clip to the right. And be able to visually see what leads to the cut.

Having 2 screens during playback would be unlogical (for me)

Mine loops in playback.

I would love to be able to see both sides of the cut in motion simultaneously. It has always irritated me that I can't. Me being me.

Hmm... That's not how any of the major NLEs work when it comes to dynamic trimming.

I want to see both sides, with maybe a highlight around the "active" clip.
