User default option: time interpolation set to optical flow, or even frame blending
I'm a bit baffled that the default time interpolation is set to "frame sampling" - which I think sounds much fancier than it is!
It's actually whole/hold frames- meaning that by default when an editor puts a clip in the timeline in slow motion, (say 50%), each frame is held for 2 frames, and the result is choppy playback.
...dating myself here by referring to this as 'reservoir dogs' style - aka stuttery CHEAP!
I work with some editors that often forget to check in on all speed ramps and timing work they have done, and then we end up with choppy videos.
I would love to see a global preference in pref/media where a user could specify an alternate default for time modified clips.
Also, I recently learned (pls PLS correct me if I'm wrong here!) that when 'conforming' a timeline that has clips with multiple frame rates within it, it's the time interpolation that essentially conforms the clips for render output. I was recently working on a documentary project with many mixed source resolutions and frame rates, and was shocked to see that 'choppy video' interpolation was the default way that Premiere handles this situation. Yowsa!
I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only editor who would like to see this change happen.
Many thanks to all in the Adobe Community and Dev Team!
