When can we have truly dedicated commands that always work for the timeline?

I can’t stand the inconsistent behavior of keyboard shortcuts in Premiere--so many random things steal focus from the timeline panel.  For example, I drag an effect onto a clip ON the timeline, the clip still has focus, but for no good reason the *program panel* is now the active panel, meaning the so-called “dedicated“ keystrokes like zoom in and out on my keyboard and my tourbox no longer zoom in or out the timeline.  So I have to hit another key F1 or click my mouse into the timeline just to get the function back. I can’t even build macros to accomplish what I want for these--if the timeline has focus, then hitting F1 will cycle to another open sequence--again, doing what I don't’ want it to do.

This is just one of so many examples of stolen focus ruining my worklow and keyboard shortcuts. It literally feels like Premiere anticipates my every desire and then does exactly what I don’t want at every turn.

This even applies inside the timeline. If I click on an edit point then hit the keyboard shortcut for the default transition, it applies the transition BUT the focus stays on the edit point, so I have to click on the transition...then click on the transition AGAIN before I can move it. I’ve said before that to do a simple transition at start of cut takes 5 steps, unless I drag the transition out of the effects panel every time.

Amen to this. I would especially vote for the zoom in, zoom out keys to have an option that they always keep focus on the timeline. I virtually never want to zoom in and zoom out on the source monitor or the program monitor. I'm always wanting to zoom the timeline, but yet sometimes the focus is on one of those two monitors.
