Allow banned users to browse the forums that is otherwise public anyway

When logged into a banned community account, it's impossible to view any page on the forums. Even though these pages are publicly available when logged out. As it's also impossible to log out of said banned account without clearing all browsing data from browser profile this can be quite frustrating.

Would be great if banned users could view pages and simply be banned from contributing.

Thanks for your time!

it's not viewing that's a problem. it's posting.

That’s a very valid point. Forcing banned accounts into a complete lockout where even public pages can’t be viewed feels unnecessary, especially when the same content is accessible while logged out. It also creates a bad user experience since clearing browser data just to log out isn’t practical. A more balanced approach would be allowing read-only access — banned users can still browse public content but can’t post, reply, or interact. This way the community remains protected while avoiding needless frustration.

Clear your browser's cache & history. Or use a different browser.

The account was banned for a reason.

Hey Jane,

Thanks for letting me know, I'm aware it's unlikly to happen but you have to start somewhere!

I posted this idea a year or so ago but it was deleted.

And yes, I'm posting from another account naturally. Banned users don't have access to any pages on the community, you simply get a full screen page saying "You don't have access to this page" this includes sign in or out. Even when signing out, you will still have a banned flag in your browser's cookies so if you want to simply view any page, you'll have to delete those as well. It's not a great experience.

I'm not here to argue the validity of a ban - even though I was given no reason - just trying to make the user experience better. I've been a paying CC customer for 15 years and often look for solutions on this forum.

Thanks

Your post is in Ideas, so it will be seen by Adobe Staff, even if they don't respond. Community Experts are volunteers and while we may offer our own opinions, we cannot make any changes.

Since you were able to post, and have posts going back to December 2024, you do not appear to be a banned user?

Also, I am genuinely curious that you cannot log out — most of us have to intentionally log in quite often, which is annoying!

As you said, if you are logged out, you can view all the pages. If you can't log out, you might try another browser where you never log in.

Jane

There are also some that aren't. Also this would not allow them to contribute/post so it wouldn't change anything in that regard.

because most banned users are outright spammers, i favor no leniency.
