Is there a downvote system?

So I've noticed that this forum like almost any tech forum is full of people who just respond to every single post with some answer that may or may not be relevant. they are then rewarded for that participation even if their answer is totally irrelvant or useless. Some people just cut and past the same exact answer to every post.

Frankly, I find forums to be the most useless place on earth to get help because of this. Some forums let you downvote answers to discourage this behavior.  I would really like it if Adobe did this.

The two "experts" responding here are demonstrating your point.

I'm sorry if you are taking this personally. I thought I was quite clear in my original post that this is a problem I see in support forums in general, one that many other forums have  mitigate with a downvote system. There's nothing personal about it although it seems like kglad is trying to make it seem that way for some reason.

Posting the link suggests I have some ulterior motive and distracts from my major point. My experience of many forums across the board are that people come on and post a lot to get a rank like "Expert" and people like me think that means this person has some qualification and their answer is valueable. In fact, it means nothing more than they post a lot.

There's also an issue well-known in forums that people tend to look at posts that are unanswered. If I think I might know the answer to a problem, but then I see someone with a "Community Expert" rank has posted a different reply, there's a incentive not to post my answer and appear stupid. So the person who actually has a solution never posts.

I am making a suggestion. You can like it or not, but it's my right to suggest this. I clicked the little "idea" button and everything.. I am not an idiot. I am not mentally ill. My experiences and my opinons are as valid as anyone's and so far every response to this thread has reinforced my belief that forums appear to be full of people who post a lot whether they have anything useful to say or not. And they seem to get quite upset when you ask them why they are posting these things. Again, you guys are coming on here and arguing with me instead of just letting my opinion  be expressed.

Any questions?

Okay boys & girls, let's let cooler heads prevail.

  • Posting the URL provides further context.  I see nothing wrong with it.
  • I'm not sure who or what (human or bot) marked a Correct answer in that thread.  I just know there was no reply marked Correct when I viewed it.
  • Unless we can recreate a problem on our end, we can't intuit what it is. The best we can do is make educated guesses.
  • If you don't like the replies you recieve here, simply ignore them and move on. Personal attacks are not allowed.

As to DISLIKE (downvote) button, we ran this idea by the Adobe Community Team many months ago but they nixed it as too negative.   The goal here is to be supportive & not discourage users from posting.

Any questions?

Nope. I genuinely want to understand because this is precisely the sort of thing I mean. People seem to post just to post. I'm not starting a fight. I didn't post on your thread. You posted on mine. I didn't insult you or impugn your motivations. You impugned mine.

I'm curious how you think that helps.

Why did you add this comment? What purpose do you see this serving in terms of the conversation here?

I disagree. When people deliberately answer every single question and their advice doesn't even match the problem, that's a huge issue. I am telling you I never use forums except as a very last resort for this reason and in fact, the last problem I had on here, I had to contact tech support to get solved. The only responses from forum members were "I don't know what you're talking about." If the only possible reponse is to like something, then it rewards quantitiy over quality.

Forums should have accountability. Otherwise a title like Community Expcrt just means "Posts a lot"!
