FrameMaker

I am unable to enter any new text or click anywhere in the structure view of the existing or new FM documents. I can enter a new element and have access to all portions of the toolbar. I have verified Hypertext is in editable mode. I have normal functionality in all programs other than FM. I am working with Structured Authoring in FM12. I am just trying to figure out if my cat found the hot key. Any help would be appreciated.

When I first open the book file, and click Add, I can see Table of Contents. But if I delete the TOC and try to recreate a new one, the only option I see is Create a Standalone TOC which is not picking up the formatting from the book files to add to the Ref page. Nothing I've tried to do has fixed the issue. The TOC will not auto tab with leading dots even after I format the ref page and add the paragraph tag to it.Why does the option to add a TOC directly to the book disappear?

I have files that I can check out using the FrameMaker CMS from SharePoint 2013. But once they're checked out, I can neither save nor check them back in. In looking at the checkout file structure, it appears there are always 2 locations for checked out file, with one that "view only". The directories are actually, e.g., Files and Files_viewOnly, with the second containing files that are all read only. This has existed in previous version of FrameMaker, but we never had this problem with FrameMaker 11 and earlier versions of SharePoint.It's like it's only looking at the "viewOnly" version even though I just checked the files out.Help!

When you place a graphic on a page, are there advantages or disadvantages to putting it inside or outside a text frame?

Hello,In my user guide I manage the display of different product data by using conditions. On the cover page I insert a picture of the resp. product for the project the guide is for. Currently that picture is imported by reference in a frame on the body page. Recently I played around a bit with inserting the picture directly to the master page for that cover page so I could have the picture displayed across the whole page in the background of a title box, which worked fine.Where I'm getting stuck now is when I try to make the picture on the master page conditional.After reading some other related posts on this forum my first conclusion would be to pack it in and continue replacing the cover picture manually, but I have two questions to ask before I do that:1: is it really impossible to somehow make that picture conditional?2: if the answer to question 1 is negative, would there be a way to have that picture display across the body page in the background so I can make it conditional the

I'm using FM 2015 Publish to Responsive HTML5. I want to override the output styles with my own CSS file. However, FM generates extra CSS styles that I don't want.In Publish Settings, where it says "Manage CSS:" I select "Import" and import my CSS file.After import, my styles are loaded correctly. For the new project I'm working on, I'll be creating an instruction booklet that goes out with the product.  The booklet will be in three languages (English, French, Spanish).  I'm planning on having each language set up as a document in the book.  Is it possible to have a running page number throughout the book and a separate page number in each section? Example:  The English section is 18 pages.  The French section is 19 pages.  The assembly instructions start on page 3 in both sections.  The assembly instructions of the French section would be pg.22 in the book and pg.3 in it's section.

I have a request from marketing to add some different markings to the manuals that we produce.  They want to see something like Bullets, but not round dots.  Is there a way to add other symbols into the Paragraph Designer?

When using Framemaker v7.1 all hotkeys stop working randomly during use. This includes things such as ctrl-c, ctrl-v, ctrl-b, etc. The hotkeys continue to work in any other program outside of Framemaker. I've been trying to troubleshoot this for about 2 months now with no luck. The only fix I've discovered is closing down the entire program and reopening it. Anyone have any experience with this issue or any suggestions? Thanks!

I'm updating FrameMaker templates to reflect changes to my company's color palette as part of a rebranding initiative. My documents are full of overlapping conditions which means that each document's color definitions window is cluttered with dozens of "fm_gen_nnn" color definitions. It's not possible to permanently eliminate these junk color definitions because if you save as MIF, strip them out, and then reopen the file, there they are again because of the conditional text.Request: please *hide* all these "fm_gen_nnn" color definitions in the color definitions window. They are of no use to anyone, and they make it hard to use the window.

I want to a SME to edit a file or book, but they don't have FrameMaker. Is it possible to embed a FM license?

I've just installed FrameMaker 2015 and I've noticed that whenever I import an image into an anchored frame, said anchored frame automatically shrinkwraps around the image I just imported (even if I don't want it to). Is this a default setting that can be changed?Thanks,Melanie

Hi,here in this forum I found Russ's find/change function in ExtendScript with which you can find and replace texts. The script works perfectly when the documents are open. In the case of invisibly open documents the script does not work since TextSelection is obviously applied. Refer to link:https://forums.adobe.com/message/4032650#4032650As I want to search and replace texts within a book structure it would be useful if I could do this in documents which are not visibly open (Constants.FS_MakeVisible = false). Does anybody have an approach to search and replace in documents which are not visibly open? We are still using Adobe Framemaker 10, within the installation of this package Adobe Air 2.6.0.19140 is included. This version is quite old. It has some security flaws. The same thing is for Adobe Illustrator CS4. Contact Adobe by chat but still waiting on a response, hopefully a post here will help. Hopefully is possible to install the latest version of Air after the installation of CS4 and Framemaker and have it automatically upgraded. Goal is to limit the amount of vulnerabilites in our environment. Does this work and will the usage of programs still work correctly with the latest version of Air?Thank you in advance!

How can I get FM to paste text as plain text by default, instead of having to use 'Paste Special'?(Years ago there was a config file that could be changed, but memory fails me).

Hello. I'm helping a colleague troubleshoot an issue she's having when running a script for a structured document in Frame 12. When she runs the script, the document crashes and she receives an error message. We cleared her Windows temp folder and rebooted, but that didn't help. Any ideas what could be causing this?
