I have FMS2 installed. I have Dreamweaver 8. My path to the Applications folder in FMS is the default. My webserver has a folder that I am publishing my HTM and SWF files to. (the applications folder is NOT in the web accessable folder). My .flv files live in Applications/App_Name/streams/_definst_/something.flv I am guessing that App_Name is my Application. Which of the above would be my instance? What would my stream name be? Given this path, what should the URI be that I put into the Insert Flash Movie dialog box??? Any help would be great. Thanks,
We were previously running Flash Communications server 1.5, and have installed FMS 2.0. We copied over our stream files with the same folder structure, but when the .flv file is streamed, the audio plays (and the connectios show up in the administraton console), but the video (from the same file) does not show up. Any help would be apprecieated. Thanks,
hi there, we've been looking at user media server for a new project, so i downloaded the developer edition and set everything up. it's all set up right using the defaults (1985, 1111) and i can get into the management console and log into the server. my problem is getting anything to work. there was a similar thread on this forum related to this and it tried out what it set out, but there was no solution and nothing still worked. all i'm simply trying to do it get anything to connect to the server so i can figure out how to work it. none of the samples work and the documentation is...well, lets just leave the documentation for the time being. i'm copying the tutorial_text fla to test the server out. my fla is called damian.fla, and there's a damian subfolder in the applications folder. it also appears in my applications when i go ito the management console and i can start an instance of it from there. i can't however get anything out of flash. below is the code im using =============
hi flash fans ...im working with the video conference example and its not possible for me to get a connecten to my local server ! whats the problem ? the server shows an incoming connection ! thx for help !
Ok, I'm an IT Director who's been slated to get FMS2 running and I have a feeling I'm going to need some development help with this. I have IIS6.0 running my site on port 81, FMS uses 1935 and tunnels over port 80. I'm just trying to get one .FLV file to play in a browser for me and, as many others concur, the documentation is pitifull. I'm trying to do this with the development license I guess. When I look I license it says "No license files discovered." so I assume I'm running Development version? I have placed a .SWF file in my wwwroot directory and a .FLV under an application directory. I can see it in the console as Active and Loaded for about 5 minutes then it drops to 0 again until I reset the services. I'm trying to connect to the server from behind a firewall on the same subnet using rtmp://servername/appname/ but nothing happens even when the App is flagged as active. Could anyone point me in the right direction or tell me what I need to do to get this to connect properl
hi all, i managed to play a .swf file in the a directory containing the .flv file using FMS. i read from the documentations that i am able to play the .swf file in a directory without the .flv file. But when i try to copy and paste the .swf file to another directory and play it, i cannot see the video or hear the audio even though the FMS show that there is a client and the video is indeed streaming.. anyone please help me with the above problem..thanks...
Hi Today, we provide our users with an embedded ActiveX control to encode video from any DirectShow-supported input device. We transcode the video on the client side and upload up to 1-minute video (.wmv). Users can edit the captured video prior to upload (in/out handles in the UI), and decide what portion to upload - basic video editing. I'd like to architect a new system and open our service to all platforms, thus evaluating Flash. Before going too deep, it is imperative for me to know whether Flash platform (Player, Authoring and FMS) can handle the desired video quality I'm looking for, and whether my users would have some control over the captured video before uploading. 1) I looked at some samples and the live-view video appears to be very low-quality. Is it configurable? Can FMS2 record 1-minute video of the foloowing specs: 320x240, 12FPS, 300kbps, audio: mp3/mono/16bits/22kHz? What codec does FMS2 use to encode the video? Is it On2/VP6 codec? 2) Beside FMS2, do I need to
When I originally set up FMS it was working perfectly. I could load my applications and test them without problems. However, after developing for a while I had to restart the server. After the restart I can no longer load my application. The server and adminserver are both started and I can login to the admin console. When I try to load an application it shows up in the admin console for ~5s and then disappears. Looking at the logs tells me nothing. Basically everything connects/loads and then disconnects/unloads. If I tail -f the *.00.log files I see the following when I try to load the app: ==> access.00.log <== #Date: 2006-04-28 #Fields: x-category x-event date time x-pid c-ip cs-bytes sc-bytes x-sname sc-stream-bytes x-file-size x-file-length x-comment ==> core.00.log <== #Date: 2006-04-28 #Fields: date time x-pid x-status x-ctx x-comment 2006-04-28 12:47:38 11001 (i)2581237 Starting admin app on core (11001). - 2006-04-28 12:47:38 11001 (i)2581238 Core (11001) connec

OK it was a flash remoting problem... thanks.
I downloaded the Developer version, as we are evaluating, whether or not we are going to purchase FMS. I went through the documentation and its not user friendly either. I really find it difficult to set it up and use, does anyone know where I could find a set of step-by-step instructions? I have set up windows servers and linux servers, even windows media server, without much of a problem, but trying to set up the FMS and utilize it is not easy, at least to me. Any help would be appreciated.
Dear all, I've installed the free Developers Edition but had no luck, and I can read on this forum lots of others had problems too. I'm just looking for an example that shows how to implement a video streaming service from our server with automatic bandwidth detection, and more important, an example of how to connect to a credit card billing solution. If anyone can point me towards an example,I would be very greatfule, especially if it's a step-by-step tutorial-like example. Furthermore, I can't find any info about the "new video compressor" Macromedia/Adobe is talking about, that garantuees high-quality video. Can anyone tell me how we should convert our videos? Thanks! Kind regards, Charles

Hello I saw this information : Macromedia Flash Communication Server MX 1.5 comes with a new feature called "HTTP tunneling". This makes it possible to use port 80 and the http-protocol for communicating with the server. link : http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/flashcom/articles/first_comm_app.html How can I use the HTTP tunneling please ? Thank you.
I am a system admin tasked with installing Flash Media Server 2. I have followed the instructions and I am able to start both the adminserver and server processes. When I try to access the admin I get the following error. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> - <result> <level>error</level> <code>NetConnection.Connect.Rejected</code> <description>Admin user requires valid username and password.</description> <timestamp>Tue 25 Apr 2006 11:11:09 AM EDT</timestamp> </result> I am running CentOS 4.2 and pretty much took the defaults for all options during the install. The processes are owned and running as user and group nobody (matched the apache process). Any ideas? Thank you . Rob
Hello I would like to know if I can use Flash MX with Flash Media Server 2.0.1 ? Thank you
One of our clients noticed across 2 Macs that the audio feeds started to progressively slow down (sounding like an old record player winding down). Is this a known issue? (see topic title and summary for specs). Thanks.
I am trying to find a way to record a live Flash video stream. As far as I can tell it seems that the Flash Media Server should have that ability - but none of the Flash Streaming Service providers that I have contacted seem to provide that capability. Being able to do this is critical to my being able to deploy a Flash streaming video solution. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks
I have the developer version of flash media server set up. I also have a flash video file with the name p1f1.flv. What do I have to do to view this video (streamed) in a browser? Can't find a cookbook or tutorial explaining this.
I just downloaded FMS 2.0.1 today and installed on my Win2K dev machine. I just want to start testing. After reading up in the docs about how to connect to the server and being unsuccessful in doing so, I downloaded the samples from the Macromedia site. I unzipped and placed the samples and applications folders in the FMS installation directory. I can connect through the server admin console. The problem is that most of the sample apps don't work. I wanted to look at the sample_guestbook app since it seems pretty simple. When I launch the SWF in either the standalone player or in the browser (from the provided HTML file) nothing happens. I then opened the FLA and published but I get a trace of "Unable to connect". When I try the sample_lobby SWF it works. The problem with that is the connection process is a lot more complicated since it's using components. I tried my own FLA but it won't work: var nc = new NetConnection(); nc.onStatus = function(info) { trace(info.code); } nc.co
Is latency an issue with FMS? We are colocating a bunch of servers and the ping time has really gone up. Is that going to hinder our ability to stream?
Hello Everyone, I am a complete newbie to FMS2. In fact, I don't know much about server-side technologies at all. There is a gentleman I work with that is taking care of that side of things for me, but I am posting here in his place as the work he does for me is part-time, and I need to start finding solutions to my problem now while he's at work at his main job. So, please bear with me. I'm streaming video via RTMP from FMS2. This requires a "keep-live" connection, as while the user is watching the video, the video data is being discarded...the video file is not downloaded to the user's local machine. I've had many people test the site and make sure the videos are working great, and I've gotten no complaints. However, my client reports that if anyone tries to view the videos from their main offices, it shows up but plays VERY choppy. I know that this is some sort of network issue and not a browser issue, Flash Player issue, or even a problem with the local machine because I had take
