I synced a bunch of pictures while editing and had to manually refresh all the masks.   This is not clear to me. There are many "sync" functions in LrC. Which are you referring to? How do you perform this sync? Please tell us the exact step-by-step process.   While editing Lightroom updated the catalogue so I started in one and continued in a new one but never closed the app.   This doesn't sound right, LrC never upgrades a catalog with an existing session of LrC open. It simply doesn't work that way, and furthermore no one else has ever reported such a thing. What did you see on your screen that indicates to you that it upgraded the catalog?   So after refreshing I saw the masks again and I did that for about 1000 pictures manually. When I wanted to export the pictures all the refreshments were gone and I would have had to refresh all over again.   When you exported, was this in a new session of LrC? Did you close LrC and come back later to export?   Given what you have said, I cannot think of an explanation that covers all of the statements you made. I am suspicious that this all happened in the same LrC session. In my opinion, the "most likely" explanation is that you have accidentally been using two catalogs without realizing it. First thing I would try is to turn off filters before you do the keyword search. In the Library Module, select Library->Enable Filters so it is unchecked.   If that doesn't help: Please explain in a lot more detail what happens or does not happen when you do a keyword search. Please tell us the version NUMBER of your Lightroom Classic. We need the version NUMBER and not words like "latest" or "up-to-date".   I cannot explain why your current setup with two external SSD drives would be any slower than having one 4TB SSD, unless the new SSD is malfunctioning, or the USB port is malfunctioning. There are gazillions (well, a lot) of LrC users with several external SSDs who do not experience this slowness.   Speed of disk drives where the photos are stored should have only a trivial impact on Lightroom Classic speed, so trivial that you will never notice the difference. So whether you have two external SSDs, or old style HDDs, that speed difference will not affect Lightroom Classic speed (other than trivially). People have used external HDDs for centuries* to store photos without having LrC slowness.   * -- maybe not centuries but decades ...   Now if you put the catalog file on an HDD, then you might notice a speed difference. ... I have now figured out the issue and corrected it, removed the images from Lr and then reimported to the correct location. By @adrianc12334054   And if you do it wrong, you will lose all edits and all user-provided metadata. I don't consider this a solution. ... Afficher plus

Translation to English:   My hypothesis: during the migration to version 15 of Lrc, Lrc migrates the catalog but also modifies the content of the xmp files and on this occasion it corrupted the xmp files, making it impossible to extract the metadata...   Lots of people have upgraded to LrC 15, and no one else is reporting such a thing. Also, LrC does not use the xmp file when it needs the metadata, it uses whatever is stored in its catalog database. So corrupted xmp files shouldn't be a problem, but I doubt that the xmp files are even touched when the catalogs are upgraded. ... Afficher plus

Are you talking about Lightroom (Lr icon) or Lightroom Classic (LrC icon)? Please also tell us the version NUMBER of your software (we need the version NUMBER and not words like 'latest' or 'up-to-date').   We really need a lot more detail about what you are doing; however as a wild guess, it could be that you are in a smart collection in Lightroom Classic, and one of the conditions of the smart collection is that the photo has no edits, so the photo disappears from the smart collection but it is still in your catalog, it has not been deleted. Another wild guess is that your sort order is set to Edit Time and so when you edit the photo, it moves to the beginning or end of the sequence of photos.   But enough wild guesses, explain what you have done in detail, step-by-step, starting from the beginning. ... In addition to what @AxelMatt said, you need to move the backups to some other drive. Backups absolutely do not belong on the same disk drive as your originals, these are not really backups on the same drive as your originals (why? because if the drive fails, then you have no copies of your photos and no copies of your catalog file).   You also should move the photos off of the internal HD to an external HD.
