InDesign 21.4 Bug: Unable to Move Multiple Selected Objects When Dragging Over Placed Images

In the latest update of InDesign when I have multiple shapes and frames on the page selected, if my cursor is above something like a rectangle with content/picture inside it, I only move the picture that is below it at the time.

Rather than the whole selection of objects as it used to. I tested before and after the update and it was something that only broke with 21.4. If I cursor over a solid shape object while still selecting the entire group (including the photo frame) that then moves the entire section but only if cursor above a placed fill object does it break.

What could possibly be happening?

Hi, we released InDesign version 21.4.1 today that includes a fix for this issues. Please check out: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/desktop/whats-new/release-notes.html

Please update InDesign and let us know how it goes.

If you do not see the update in the Creative Cloud Desktop App, check out: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/apps/manage-apps/creative-cloud-apps/update-creative-cloud-apps-manually.html

    Thanks,

    Hi,

since latest update to ID 21.4 (Win x64) it’s not possible anymore to move more than one object at time.
Even I marked several object, on same layer, or different layers, when I try to move or copy them, it just moves or copy the top-object.
When I change the tool to “Transform” (CTRL+E) I can move all objects, but I can’t copy them.
    That’s a desaster!
Everything worked as expected until the update to 21.4.

As mentioned in several forums I erased the InDesign-Preferences, dosen’t work either.

Does anyone has the same problem or do you have a idea how to solve it?

Happening for me too; really a drag trying to do publication layout like this. I’ve downgraded until it’s updated.

What is Adobe even doing? This is such a basic, necessary function of the app. All of the past few updates for Illustrator, Indesign, and Photoshop have been such a step backwards. Affinity is looking better and better.

This is very annoying...seems like a very basic thing and surprised it got broken. My muscle memory is not good a using the shift key, and perhaps by the time I am trained the bug will be fixed…?

Another thing I’ve noticed: If you have multiple objects selected, normally you can shift-click on them to deselect without affecting the other selected objects. But if you have frames with graphics in them, they are not responsive to shift-clicking. It still works though to shift-drag a selection box around the graphic frames to deselect. Clearly something major was overlooked in the last update that is affecting a really basic behavior of the app.

Can’t even deselect single objects from a selected group like you used to. This version shouldn’t have went out the door. This is why I never update anything.

Just like everything else in the world - major companies are using AI and losing the plot entirely. This is akin to building a car that only steers left. To turn right, just turn 90 degrees left 3 times!

I just don’t care anymore, let all the big companies die off. If you can’t handle making BASIC FUNCTIONALITY work then just give up. Millions of us rely on industry standards to survive our jobs and we are instead wasting hours to figure out why our software is suddenly broken. Adobe, Google, Open AI, Disney, all these massive evil companies need to bow out of the industry and give us peace. You are all horrible and ruining everything we hold dear.

Shift key works and you only have to remember to hold it down to *start* dragging the selected objects--once you ‘unlock’ them with the shift key you can proceed as normal. As a friend of mine used to say, it’s all part of the excitement of InDesign.
