It's been four months and this still sucks (Export Mode)

It's been four months and this still sucks. But this is also classic Adobe. Fix what's not broken, and don't fix what is broken. I see a lot of placation and empty promises from Adobe staff who are entirely missing the point. Yes, the new export window sucks and they "missed the mark on this one" but what pisses me and a lot of other users off is that this isn't the first time. This has been going on for at least a decade of implementing new features many users didn't ask for in a half-assed manner, only to back track and tell the community that they're working on it and "taking our feedback seriously." Others in this thread have brought it up too; it's not that we don't like change, it's that we're working professionals, many of us with a decade or more of muscle memory and efficiences in our workflow that we've developed to keep pace with an ever increasing demand for short turn arounds, only for Adobe to change it for seemingly no reason. We don't have the luxury of taking the time to relearn something as fundemental to our workflow as exporting a video. Even something as simple as having to do two extra mouse clicks to get to the bitrate settings adds a huge amount of time and frustration when you may be exporting a dozen videos a week, whether for feedback or for delivery.

This is what the real problem is. Yes, the export window is bad. Like, really bad, did anyone even bother to test it before it shipped? Because it feels like no one did. But the real issue is the lack of accountability and how out of touch Adobe has become with the wants and needs of its most dedicated and professional users. Listen to the people who use your software before you ship new features, not after. I don't know how the internals of corporate Adobe work, but something is fundamentally wrong, and this massive thread of complaints is a symptom of a much larger problem.

    Hi,

Thanks for the concern. I moved the post the lounge as it qualifies as a rant, bashes the staff unnecesarily, and didn't really contribute anything new to the feature request. Check out our community guidelines, if you like. Feel free to PM me if you have further questions.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

If the software doesn't change, it gets called "old and dated".  If the software does change, it gets "new features no one wanted".

I wasn't exactly excited about Import Mode, Edit Mode, and Export Mode, but I understand the thinking behind it.

I'd like to see Premiere Pro launch to a new, empty project file (or at least have a preference setting for it) like After Effects does.  Of what's in Export Mode, I like being able to set Favorites that are then available immediately in Quick Export at the upper right.  Once set, I find I spend almost no time in Export Mode, and getting to an exported edit is, well, quicker.  It's also helpful that we now have File > Export > Send to Media Encoder and that the default keyboard shortcut (⌥+⇧+M) for it can be changed to ⌘+M if we have several years' worth of muscle memory for sending media to AME.  It also gets us to Media Encoder with one less click.

I'm left wondering where the users who are adamantly against Export Mode were when the feature was in beta.  The Premiere Pro team continually asks for feedback and provides a method of doing so that wasn't used.  I know some users simply don't want to install beta software, but opting out means not having a voice in the process.

"I wasn't exactly excited about Import Mode, Edit Mode, and Export Mode, but I understand the thinking behind it.  "

Please enlighten me the reason behind why making this as it is. In every single production application or actually "any application" you are able to select file name and the location it would be saved with little one click. In premiere I have to first write project name, then click on project location, press choose location then select my folder on dialog. I can't even paste a folder location directly in to "Project Location" input as it's not a editable text box. You have to still click the "Choose Location" to paste it.

There are applications made by 14 years old kids on github that has this feature where you can select both file and location, or even paste on it. People who works on these UX is absolutely have no idea what they are doing. This is a crime in UI/UX design. They had to actually try and make this "not user friendly", they literally had to code this like this as most GUI frameworks already provides this feature by default.

So yes some engineer literally took their time made this like this omega time waster, but you understand the thinking behind it huh? 🙂

    How it should be :
An editable box, where you can copy paste any path, and a dialog where you can explore and select.

I agree, there should be more voices. However these are absolute basics, I'm not paying Adobe to, teach them basics of UI/UX design though.. I don't use it anyway, and won't use it untill I see that they are serious on making actual changes based on modern standards and not some 120 years old editor's feedback who never used any modern application in his life.

The Import Mode, Edit Mode, and Export Mode bring similarity between Premiere Pro and Premiere Rush and at least for beginners I would guess that it's trying to make what's otherwise somewhat complex as simple as "one, two, three."  For some users, that's obviously been very upsetting.

Just like there's Quick Export (which once Favorites are set makes exporting directly from Premiere Pro extremely quick), maybe we'll see something like "Quick Project Start" with just Name, Location, and Create.

Personally, I would prefer that Premiere Pro simply open to a new, empty Project like After Effects does.

As far as pasting a file path and navigation goes when setting Project Location in Import Mode, I'm able to do that under both Windows and macOS.  Is that not working for you for some reason after selecting "Choose location..."?

If you're not a user of Premiere Pro, @Oğulcan Tokar, why are you here?

Idk why the mod moved this. It wasn't off topic.
