Since upgrading to macOS Monterey 2 months ago, now running Ver 12.2.1, have been having problems with Acrobat Reader. Works fine for a few days, then get spinning color wheel when opening a PDF. Gets frozen on front page of PDF and can only get out by force quit. I have upgraded the OS, upgraded to the latest version of Reader, been on this site and tried to cleanse my hard drive of old adobe versions and extensions in my utilities, but have not resolved the issue. Have deleted and reinstalled Reader 5 to 6 times. Everything is fine for a few days and starts up again. Please help me!

I am having this issue, was there a resolution? I called Adobe support and I didn't get anywhere with it. Our business uses Adobe everyday and this is hindering our process.

Hi @Kathleen274441097xdb

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that

Is this an issue with a particular PDF file or with all the PDFs? Please try with a different PDF file and check. If the file is stored on a shared network/drive please download it to your computer locally and then try again.

What is the version of Acrobat DC and the OS you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 22.3.20281 (Mac) 22.3.20282 (Win) installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Also try to repair the installation from the help menu (Win Only) and see if that works.

Please try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-default/td-p/4792082

You may also try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights in Win or enable the root account in MAC and try using the application there and check.

Amal

Hi Irene

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that.

Would you mind sharing the version of the Acrobat Reader DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 22.1.20085 installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Also, try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-default/td-p/4792082

You may also try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights or enable the root account in MAC and try using the application there and check.

Hello Amal,

Thank you for emailing me back. You do realize that the spinning wheel appears as soon as I open the application therefore I cannot check what version it is, however because I just downloaded it again yesterday March 16 I am sure it is the latest version 2022.1.20085.

I did reset the Adobe preferences as mentioned in the link and that did not resolve the issue. I had done that previously one of the other times it crashed.

I do not understand what you mean by this:

You may also try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights or enable the root account in MAC and try using the application there and check.

I have never had any issues with Adobe Acrobat reader in 20+ years. I do not understand what is happening except that it started when I upgraded to Monterey so there must be a conflict between Monterey and Adobe acrobat reader. Please help me! Thank you.

Hi there,

Please try to enable the root account in MAC as described here https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT204012 and try using the application there to check if its an issue with the user profile or not.

Regards

Amal
